  1. I wonder how many albums this 'multi-album' deal involves. 👀 It's something that will probably remain confidential though.

It it a coincidence that this announcement comes on the heels of the completion of the album recording and mastering? Was the label waiting for the finished album before signing a deal?

Of course now that it was down to actually promoting the album and manufacturing the records, the band needed the label's resources. I have a strong feeling that the recording was paid out of pocket by the band and that they will retain all rights to the music, unlike their previous albums.

And while on this topic, Delain's Martijn Westerholt has posted again from Finland and has had a chance to listen to the new album!

Being a big fan of Nightwish I wanted to take the time to post a message in this wonderful community here 😄. Being in Finland I had the honor to listen to the new Nightwish album. Its not my place to say anything about it, but one thing I would like to share. Its absolutely stunning! What a fantastic piece of art! I think it will make a lot of people here very happy!

  2. The setlist for the first show of the Living The Dream tour with Tarja and Marko has been revealed!

    https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/tarja/2024/casino-magic-neuquen-argentina-63ad0e0b.html

Together they sang the following songs:

'Dead To The World' gave me goosebumps! 😍

I must confess that I think that Marko looks a bit goofy on stage when he's not playing bass. He should always have one even if he's not playing. 😜

  3. A few Tarja news items:

Finland! See you in summer, with Marko Hietala special guest, at Karjurock on July 20th, as part of the Living The Dream - Summer 2024 Tour.

Probably means that a North American tour might not happen. :classic_sad:

To be honest I don't see Auri touring outside Europe anytime soon, unless perhaps as a support band? If well-established bands like Delain don't draw crowds of more than a few hundred people here, I don't see how Auri can make travelling overseas worth their while. 🤔

  5. It's not an easy task ranking the Delain albums, especially since I haven't listened to all of them -- I know the singles, but I don't think that I have ever listened to We Are The Others, April Rain or The Human Contradiction in full.

I'm surprised that you ranked Apocalypse & Chill so low! It's not my favourite album, but it does have some of my favourite songs, including Masters Of Destiny (ok, it was previously released on an EP), We Had Everything (I love that 'Boys Of Summer' 80s melancholic vibe!), Creatures (such a Queen rip-off!)... On the other hand, there are songs on this album that I don't like, so I wouldn't rank it first either.

  6. Thanks for the heads up! I have watched their GLS, they're quite talented. Having a live choir up there on the stage with them is something Nightwish should try at least once! And also adding a live orchestra while they're at it. 😁

  7. TARJA TURUNEN Discusses Her Current Relationship With Former NIGHTWISH Bandmate MARKO HIETALA

    Loaded Radio, February 19, 2024

    https://loadedradio.com/tarja-turunen-relationship-nightwish-marko-hietala/

Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen says her current relationship with ex-bandmate Marko Hietala is much different these days

In a recent interview with Brazil’s Metal Musikast, Tarja Turunen reflected on the experience of collaborating with her former NIGHTWISH bandmate, Marko “Marco” Hietala, for a special performance of “The Phantom Of The Opera” during their open-air concert in July 2023 at Z7 Summer Nights in Pratteln, Switzerland. At the event, Tarja and Marko each delivered individual sets, with their rendition of the iconic theme from Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s musical taking place during Turunen‘s segment of the show.

“I got a call from a promoter to take part in one festival in Switzerland last year in a European summertime in July,” Tarja said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). And then I got to know, when I had accepted to be the artist of the evening, then I saw that they had also invited Marko and Marko’s band to perform in the same festival.

“So I thought, ‘Hmm.’ And I was actually sending a message that I wished to reach Marko, because I didn’t have his contact any longer, to ask him to perform with me ‘The Phantom Of The Opera‘ in my show. And he responded ‘yes.’ So, after 18 years [laughs], we were about to sing the song together. And it was super exciting. It was really beautiful. The people got very emotional about this.

“We had met already before — we had been singing on a few occasions in Finland a few years before — so we kind of cleaned the table on that occasion already,” she explained. “So we were in good terms, so to say, but now singing ‘The Phantom Of The Opera‘ together after all these years was amazing. So we did it twice, actually — we did it in Switzerland and then in Finland. And now we are going to do it — that and a lot more [laughs] — there in Brazil [during our upcoming joint tour].”

Tarja also elaborated on her current friendship with Marko, saying: “It’s a new relationship with him, because he’s not the same person anymore than he was in the band. He has changed a lot, and many years have passed by. I’ve changed myself. Life has changed us. So it is a new relationship, let’s say. And it had made me very happy to get to know him better after all these years.”

Tarja spoke to Chaoszine last November and said that she was “nervous” prior to performing “The Phantom Of The Opera” with Marko at Z7 Summer Nights. “I believe that he was nervous as well to meet up with me, but we were both very excited to go back to the stage and to sing the song,” she said. “We sang ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ in Switzerland for the first time. Then we went over to Finland to perform it again, did a show together there — he with his band and me with my own. Wow. It was pure emotion.

“I think it was really beautiful, but it made me kind of… I was, like, ‘I’m in peace,’ sort of. The feeling was great. I think it was even more for Marko, because I saw him standing there after my concert, when I finished my set, and he came like almost in tears, saying that this was important. We reconnected, and it’s great. Now I’m really looking forward to have this tour [with Marko] in South America in March [2024], and I’m sure you will see something else happening also. Yeah, you’ll hear.”

Turunen‘s tenure with NIGHTWISH came to an abrupt end at the conclusion of the band’s 2005 tour when she was presented with an open letter. This letter, announcing her departure, was simultaneously published on the NIGHTWISH website.

Hietala made headlines in January 2021 with his announcement of departure from NIGHTWISH. In a statement, he revealed his struggle with feeling validated in his life for several years. Following his departure, session bassist Jukka Koskinen from WINTERSUN stepped in to fill his role. Koskinen made his live debut with NIGHTWISH in May 2021 during the band’s two interactive experiences.

Anette Olzon, the former powerhouse vocalist of Nightwish and one-half of the dynamic duo behind The Dark Element alongside Jani Liimatainen, is back with her third solo album, Rapture, out May 10

The first single and accompanying lyric video, "Heed The Call", is out today, offering a tantalizing taste of what's to come from this highly anticipated release. Watch the video below, and pre-order the album here.

With a sense of excitement and anticipation, Anette Olzon shares: "I'm so happy to release the first song from my upcoming album Rapture. 'Heed The Call' is a culmination of passion, energy, and creative expression, and I truly hope you'll enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed bringing it to life."

Set to captivate audiences worldwide, Rapture promises to deliver an electrifying blend of heavy melodies and soaring vocals that solidify Anette Olzon's esteemed status as one of the premier female voices in the metal genre.

Following in the footsteps of her critically acclaimed second solo album, Strong, Anette Olzon once again teams up with acclaimed Swedish guitarist and producer Magnus Karlsson to craft a musical experience that pushes boundaries and excites the senses. Together, they have curated a collection of songs that showcase Anette's unparalleled vocal range, complemented by Karlsson's masterful riffs and the addition of growls by Johan Husgafvel, adding a dynamic layer to the album's sound.

Rapture seamlessly navigates through various musical genres, from symphonic to melodic power metal, with hints of melo-death, while maintaining an irresistibly catchy and melodious essence. Anette Olzon's performance on this album is her most versatile yet, proving her ability to evolve and innovate while staying true to her signature style.

Renowned mixer Jacob Hansen, known for his work with Pretty Maids, Volbeat, and The Dark Element, returns to the fold to ensure that Rapture achieves the perfect balance between heaviness and hookiness, resulting in an album that is both impactful and memorable.

Rapture is set to unleash its sonic fury upon the world, cementing Anette Olzon's status as a force to be reckoned with in the metal music scene. Prepare to be swept away by the sheer power and beauty of Anette Olzon's Rapture.

I've listened to 'Heed The Call', it's rather catchy. Judging from the lyrics and the track titles, this will be a heavily religion-inspired album?

  10. Also, Mika is throwing a fit at entitled fans:

I don't mix and the guys that are won't give s**t of people's opinions. Just yesterday we talked about this how tens of people are giving instructions how to do our job, what kind of an album Nightwish should do, who should be the singer and where to go on tour. Nightwish will finish the album exactly the way they want and my job is help them to acchive that target 😂

  11. Mika Jussila commenting on the ongoing mastering process:

[...] Normally album mastering takes one "actual mastering day" and maybe another for small fixes. But not in the Nightwish case 🙂
I have already done mastering for the whole album when the mixes was about 80% ready so that the overall sound was final but a lot of small balance fixes still undone. This because the production team including me wanted to check all possible changes that happen to mixes during mastering. With those 1.0 files we already did the album timeline editing with Tuomas so that the tracks are in right order with right fades and gaps.
After getting the next mix round 2.0 where files were about 95% ready I did another album mastering from the beginning. Once again for the team and this time for the whole band to check and feedback. I also made precise volume changes to different parts of these files so that we can observe the final dynamics and loudness level.
Next I will wait the 3.0 mix versions for the final mastering which I know already from previous albums that they will not be the finals because we will find something to improve after the final mastering so round 4.0 sure comes 😃
But there will come a day when we let go and enjoy champagne in honor of a new great album. It may also happen that after weeks of listening, the mixing engineer comes up with some cool trick with which he can improve the mixes so we start all over again the whole process 😃
  12. Epica have published on YouTube a short 2024 tour after-movie. It's the kind of simple fan acknowledgement that I miss from Nightwish these days.

  13. For what it's worth, Darkwoods has published this on their FB page:

Our band is now complete! Former session drummer Kai Hahto ( Nightwish , Auri etc.) joined Darkwoods My Betrothed as a full member!

Darkwoods My Betrothed is (from left to right):

    • Pasi Kankkunen: vocals, guitar
    • Kai Hahto: drums
    • Jouni Mikkonen: guitars
    • Teemu Kautonen: bass
    • Tuomas Holopainen: keyboards

So Kai has officially joined the band, are they planning a tour, more albums or something? 👀

In any case, Kai has replied under that post to a fan speculating about Nightwish winding down:

[...] there hasn’t been any talk ”closing” anything. In the meantime it gives space to other things to do. Kids don’t have anything to do with this touring break…

Yes, Xandria with Wind Rose on April 15 and Kamelot on April 28.

  15. A word from James Shearman, new orchestral arranger on album #10 replacing Pip Williams:

I’ve been working with Nightwish for two decades now! Back in 2004 I had a call from the brilliant British producer and arranger Pip Williams, asking if I was available to conduct the orchestra and choir for a new band he was arranging for. I turned up at the old CTS studios in Wembley, London not knowing what to expect, but I suddenly found myself totally drawn into their musical world, the songs were Epic, very melodic, emotive, dramatic, and I loved it and so continued conducting the orchestra and choirs for all their subsequent albums over the years.
Fast forward to spring 2023 and I get a call from dear Pip suggesting I take on the huge (and daunting) task of writing the orchestra and choir arrangements with Tuomas for the new (10th) album (big shoes to fill indeed Pip!).
So here we are in this picture from last October 2023 at Abbey Road studio two, having just completed recording the orchestra and choir arrangements that I’d had the pleasure of arranging with Tuomas for their 10th Album!
It was a lot of fun, and I’m pleased to tell Nightwish fans that the band are still just as unassuming, kind, musically brilliant and lovely to work with as they were at the very start all those years ago.
Hope you all love the forthcoming new album.🙏
  16. Hi Richard, welcome to this forum!

This book of yours sounds like a huge endeavour, but I do hope you get to publish, I'm sure you have some great personal stories to tell from some of your 121 Nightwish experiences!

You are of course welcome to use information from this forum if it can add to your work. How far along have you got in your project?

Have you considered self-publishing as an e-book? I think there are also options for print-on-demand on some publishing platforms, but I have no real experience in that area.

  17. The big news is, Xandria is returning to North America! As the opening act for Wind Rose, an italian power metal band I know nothing about, but I think I would like to see Xandria though.

  18. According to setlist.fm, in his solo show Kai played Music, Pan and Nemo from Nightwish, plus songs from Wintersun, Swallow The Sun, Auri and others.

I hope that the official recordings from the show become available in one form or another.
