Tomorrow Floor is back on stage in Amsterdam, first show since the end of the Human Nature tour. She mentioned that her sister Irene will be on stage with her, I wonder if there's anything from Ayreon on the setlist? 😮
Also, the second solo album is already in the works, I wonder how much songwriting will be Floor's this time?

Quick update, a few days ago Kai mentioned that Troy has finished recording vocals, mixing has started already, and again that the album will be hEAvY! 💀
-
Well Kai mentioned today on FB that he's on his way to the studio where Troy will be recording his vocals. I guess this means somewhere in Finland?

This will be the first time Nightwish record anything in Sweden, except perhaps for Floor's vocals in the finale of Shoemaker. To think that the album is almost in final form, except for some tweaking! 😮

This announcement may also be on of interest to some:

Fresh news!
Thankfully, everything seems to be fine with both Floor and the baby.
QuoteThere she is! With great happiness we can announce the birth of our second daughter Lucy! Big sister Freja is delighted with our dark haired little girl too! 👶🏻
Health is not a given fact, and so it’s humbling to report that both our baby girl as mom are in a great one! We are enjoying these special moments to the fullest and ask for understanding of our privacy in this intimate time! Big thanks for all the love and support we received during the pregnancy! We have now welcomed our dear Lucy into this beautiful world 🙏🏻

Am I jealous? Yes! 😁
QuoteDELAINERS!!Because of the huge amount of requests after we sold out our show in Metropool Enschede (NL) on November 18th, we decided to add another show in the afternoon! This will be a very special one, because we are going to play a different setlist containing a lot of songs we didn't play in a long while! And to celebrate this unique occasion, we’re gonna offer discounts at our merch stand, and an extra discount for people who already bought a ticket for the evening show! -
Another update from Kai's FB:
QuoteThe percussion dudes from our session at Abbey road. From the left Frank Ricotti, Paul Clarvis, Bill Lockhart, and far on the right our dear conductor James Shearman who also arranged the music for the orchestra etc on this session. These guys are on a different level. The lord of the rings, the hobbit, Batman, star wars, james bond. These guys have done it all. Wow! Hats off. This guy James Shearman is now in charge of the orchestral arrangements now has Pip Williams has (presumably) retired. Shearman is not a newcomer to Nightwish music though, as he has been the conductor for all orchestral recordings from Once to Human Nature, and again on album #10.

I though I would mention here that today is the 20th anniversary of Oceansouls of America, and here is what was posted on their FB page:
QuoteON THIS DAY IN OSA HISTORY: October 15, 2003—A small group of American Nightwish fans form their own online community. Oceansouls of America was created by Matthew "Snowy Owl" Bankes, who made a post at the official Nightwish forum, looking to meet other American fans. The response he got was enthusiastic and willing to help create the first fan community for Nightwish in the United States. Many of these fellow fans had even been in attendance at the band's ProgPower USA performance the month prior. When Nightwish toured North America the following year, there were even more people becoming part of the growing OSA family.
Needless to say, it is because of passionate fans that we started this awesome journey 20 years ago. It has always been the love and support from all of YOU that keep us going. Give yourselves a hand. These last 2 decades wouldn't have been possible without you.
Kiitos.
That said, except for this rarely updated Facebook page and a dormant forum, I'm afraid there's not much of an online presence anymore for this venerable fan group. I wonder where are the Oceansouls today?

14 hours ago, Moondance said:
It was probably going to be the usual festival performance in my honest opinion.
I suppose so, especially given Floor's advancing pregnancy it might have been ill advised to go for a longer setlist or to throw in new songs.
-
Indeed! Orchestra, choirs, they seem to be following the usual recipe! 😁
The other day Kai mentioned a children choir. I don't think there was a children choir on Human Nature, they worked with the Metro Voices, but on EFMB they had both the Metro Voices and Young Musicians London Children's Choir.
Also, there are heavy hints of a making-of video for the new album, probably to be used when the promotion drive for the album will get going.
But of course they don't even have Floor's voice in the can yet, I wonder if she will record it in her home studio now that she is equipped to do so?
-
While on tour in South America, Marko is performing a new song presumably from his upcoming second album. It's likely that the album version will not be acoustic. Also not sure if there will be a finnish album counterpart as well?

I thought I would share this general article about how a tour is organized and paid for, I found it informative. It clearly defines the roles of all the people involved in getting a tour on the road.

Another Instagram update from Tero Kinnunen, this week the band is recording at Abbey Road Studios. It's probably orchestral and choir work. A photo shows the dates October 9-15 as their recording schedule.

Getting ready for morning session at Abbey Road Studios, last time here was nearly 17yrs ago…
#nightwish #newalbum #recordingsession #abbeyroadstudios17 years ago was during the Dark Passion Play album cycle. According to Wikipedia:
When the drummer Jukka Nevalainen was asked about the overall cost of the new album [Dark Passion Play], he was quoted as saying "Roughly half a million... We don't know the exact sum down to the euros and cents as yet." Half of this cost was incurred in London, over an expensive eight days at the Abbey Road Studios in London, UK, during which time the London Session Orchestra, the Metro Voices Choir, a gospel choir and two Irish musicians recorded their parts at the studio.
I wonder how much seven days at Abbey Roads costs today! 🤔

A series of interesting fan videos about Kitee and retracing the Nightwish presence there. The creator visits places related to the band in and around Kitee, fun stuff.

From Wiki:
QuoteAfter Forever member Sander Gommans suffered a burnout at the beginning of 2008. Jansen posted on her website that while the band was put on hold, she was going to use the opportunity to start writing music with Jørn Viggo Lofstad for a new musical project [eventually known as Northward]. In February 2009, After Forever ultimately decided to call it quits, and on 16 June 2009 Floor announced through her MySpace site that she had started a new metal band, which put her musical project with Jørn Viggo on hold. On 17 October 2009 Jansen announced that the name of the band was going to be ReVamp.
From ReVamp's YouTube channel here's an early interview with Floor explaining the band's genesis.

I'm not going to take credit for this, it's something I recently discovered on Discord... There's an easter egg in the intro of Noise, or actually two!
The first is a snippet from the first ever YouTube video, 'Me At The Zoo' (link). We can hear 'Here we are in front of the elephants' at about 12 seconds into the song.
Right after, and just before the band kicks in, Floor shouts 'Shut up!'.
The first snippet is easier to hear, but Floor can only be heard when listening to the song in mono audio.
Here it is in stereo:
And in mono:
🤪
-
Fair enough. It's just that one might argue that the band hasn't been included in this particular experiment, except Floor for some bits here and there. 🙂
Curious to see how much orchestra will be a part of the upcoming 'heavier' album. They scaled down for Disc 1 of Human Nature but went full on with Disc 2. Will they return to the medium ground of EFMB?
-
They certainly have.
The latest release, the virtual show, was licensed by 'A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts' to Nuclear Blast. 'A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts' is the company presumably formed by the current band members, whereas the old company 'Oily Empire' must have included Marko.
My bet is that the new album will be paid for and licensed by 'A Lovely Bunch' to a record label, perhaps even Nuclear Blast, but that the band will therefore keep the rights to their music and any future re-releases.

It would appear that the aforementioned show will not be a one-off, but more like part of a full tour with Tarja and Marko. 👀
From Tarja's Facebook:
Just days after wrapping up an extended and successful tour in South America on her own, an exciting news: March 2024 will witness the first time in 18 years when Tarja will tour again with Marko Hietala!!
Having shared many albums and world tours, they will get back together on stage within Tarja´s own “Living the Dream – The Hits Tour 2024”.
Tarja recently released her first greatest hits album: “Best of Tarja – Living the Dream”. Tarja chose the songs for the album, most of them fans' favorites and her own preferred ones.
The album remastered at Sterling Sound presents her new single “Eye of The Storm” together with material from all her rock albums ‘My Winter Storm’, ‘What Lies Beneath’, ‘Colours in the Dark’, ‘The Brightest Void’, ‘The Shadow Self’ and ‘In the Raw’.
Often recognized as the Queen on the symphonic rock scene, Tarja is the best-known Finnish solo artist in the world of music. Soprano, composer, and performer, she achieved worldwide fame by co-founding and being the voice and image of the Finnish metal band Nightwish for nine years, with whom she garnered Gold and Platinum records in many countries. But she was not alone in the band as Marko was an integral part of it as well.
Marko will perform his own songs together with his band mate, the talented guitarist Tuomas Wäinolä and after that will join Tarja on stage for a memorable night.
Expectations are high. What will Tarja and Marko come up with? Old songs? New ones maybe? What would you like to listen to in the set list of the 2024 concerts?
Please name your favourite song in Tarja's SM and don’t miss out on these unique unrepeatable shows!!!!
I'm looking forward to more details, this could be a rare chance to see Marko in North America now that he's no longer in a major band, but so far only South American dates have been posted. What would you like to hear them sing together?

NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM And WINTERSUN Members Join Forces In CROWNSHIFT
December 5, 2023
https://blabbermouth.net/news/nightwish-children-of-bodom-and-wintersun-members-join-forces-in-crownshift
Nuclear Blast Records has announced the signing of the new Finnish metal band CROWNSHIFT.
Born as the longtime idea of four friends, CROWNSHIFT's members come from the ranks of Finland's finest exports such as NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM, WINTERSUN and FINNTROLL, are thrilled to start a new journey together and spread their authentic sonic print across the globe.
Seamlessly covering a diversity of styles, the quartet has a unique signature to their modern sound. Hypnotizing melodies paired with ripping riffs, from moody mid-tempo songs to fierce prog-death-metal opuses, CROWNSHIFT was born to be master of all trades.
Their forthcoming debut album will undoubtedly be a showcase of relentless ambition that will take you through a wide musical spectrum, with no compromises or boundaries, proving that the band are on a quest to put a striking mark on the map.
CROWNSHIFT's first single and music video will be released on January 17.
CROWNSHIFT commented: "We're super happy to start this new chapter in our career with Nuclear Blast. Their history, reputation and devotion as a metal label is incomparable and it is a privilege to embark on this exciting journey together."
Nuclear Blast Records added: "It's a pleasure to start working with this highly talented group of musicians.
"We wouldn't call it an all-star band but it's a five-star result of their collective experience from various bands. And sometimes it takes a while until the right musicians are coming together and find the perfect chemistry. Jukka, Heikki and Daniel already played together in the last NORTHER lineup until 2012. Since then, they went different ways but always crossed each other's paths, and finally came back together as CROWNSHIFT with the addition of the amazing vocal talent of Tommy Tuovinen from MYGRAIN.
"Their music is, of course, rooted in the very unique style of Finnish melodic death metal, but CROWNSHIFT enrich it with their admiration for Devin Townsend, both his raging STRAPPING YOUNG LAD era, as well as the epic prog side, and combine it with a timeless yet modern heaviness similar to the most impressive aspects of metalcore and bands such as KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. Sounds ambitious? Yes, but that's what it' s all about: being ambitious. Welcome CROWNSHIFT!"
CROWNSHIFT recently joined the roster of Till Dawn They Count Ltd management (NIGHTWISH, BEAST IN BLACK, SONATA ARCTICA).
CROWNSHIFT is:
Tommy Tuovinen: Vocals
Daniel Freyberg: Guitar, Backing Vocals
Jukka Koskinen: Bass
Heikki Saari: Drums
