One thing I noticed going through the available recordings from this tour: "Dead Boy's Poem" was actually performed a number of times with Anette during the latter half of the tour, and although it would still be missing the song's last minute or so (for some reason Tuomas wasn't very fond of that ending, even with Tarja singing), Emppu would extend his solo to include half a minute of "Walking In The Air", which hadn't been performed live with Anette (and would only be performed once with her singing).

Here's this recording for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ouBa1zF6EQ

It would take the Decades tour for a proper complete live rendition of "Dead's Boy Poem". But that's a story for another thread. 😉

Another booze story from Zachary Hietala's Facebook...

Quote
There are so many great memories with Nw, but this beats them all.
2008 Aug 9 Nw was playing at Miljoonarock Tuuri and I made 47 Aug 10.
I was at home and my bro called and asked me to come Miljoonarock Tuuri to spend my birthday.
It's about 250km from here, so try to get driver and car to make it happen.
We got everything under control,
At Miljoonarock, Ewo the man gave me a white russian drink
It was 0.5l full of pure vodka, some coffee liquer and few drops of milk.
When Nw was on stage, I was turned there as a go go girl and I danced with Anette, played Emppu's guitar and bro saved my life 🙂
I didn't know where or when they have pyros and bro grab my hair, pull me out of the stage frontline and shouted to my ear: COME HERE, YOU GONNA BURN BRO!
I survived 🙂
This bad sounding video tells the story partly...
Enjoy or not?

It's a shame because it was actually a great show starter but understandably Floor would never sing a song about Tarja leaving the band and all that nasty stuff. At least all the songs dealing with Tuomas' heartbreaks and unrequited love have less explicit lyrics so they didn't go out of style so quickly! 😁

In a few days will be the 9th anniversary of Floor and Troy officially joining Nightwish. We know full well when Floor sang with the band for the first time (October 1st, 2012) but what about Troy?

Wiki mentions that Troy joined NW for select shows during the Dark Passion Play tour, but do we know which? And when was his first presence on stage with Nightwish? 🤔

I've seen mentions of the 2008 European leg, and of the "UK and 2009 shows" so I guess that by 2009 he was a regular.

Where is that biography sequel when we need one! 😁

I'd love to see a biography sequel that covers the Dark Passion Play era to the current era.

So would I. I don't see it happening anytime soon, at least not an official biography, with Tuomas and everybody but Floor growing all secretive over the last few years. The next best thing is the Nightwish Story book and We Were Here, but neither give a complete picture of the post-Tarja years. That's a job for @Mape to tackle in his spare time! 😁

Ok I have found some answers... According to notes on Troy's own website (which hasn't been updated in years):

http://www.troydonockley.co.uk/news.htm

Quote

9th April 2009

[...] Troy is featured on the new album by his splendid friends, "Nightwish"....this is a live recording and is called "Made in Hong Kong...and other places". Troy plays on two tracks recorded at the first live appearance with the band in the London Astoria.

According to setlist.fm the two tracks Troy plays on are 'The Islander' and 'Last Of The Wilds'.

Also:

Quote

1st April 2009

[...] I am currently touring Europe, then on to the States, as special guest of my friends "Nightwish". It is a spectacular show, so if you get the chance....

If all this is accurate, Troy's first show on stage with Nightwish would have been on March 25, 2008 at the Astoria in London.

Here are for the record two reviews from those London shows.

And to celebrate Troy's 9th anniversary as an official band member, here are some YouTube recordings from that first night with NW back in 2008 (yes, it took them 5 years to make him official).
